The African thriller is more a myth
romance policeman arrived late in Africa but is now experiencing considerable growth, despite the low production. If the African adventure thriller begins in the eighties with novels such as The DASS up to the attack of Evina Abessolo, No Woman No Cry Asse ... Gueye published by Editions L'Harmattan in the short-lived series "Black Mystery" proved the genre in the late 90s with the reissue of Editions Gallimard two volumes of The spiral life of Abasse Ndione, published some years earlier in New Editions Africaines. Retired, Abasse Ndione now focuses his career as a writer of detective novels that it succeeds rather well, judging by the reception that the public has reserved for his last novel Ramata , always with Gallimard in the series "The Black". But the feat of Abasse Ndione that rightly considers as "the father of African thriller" is quickly followed by new authors such as Achilles Ngoye ( Agency black Bafoussa, Sorcellerie à bout Portant , Série noire), Bolya ( La polyandre, Serpent à plumes), Moussa Konaté ( L' Honneur des Kéita , L'empreinte du Renard, Fayard)... Et le roman policier africain a vite fait de gagner ses lettres de noblesse en intégrant la célèbre collection « La Série noire » des Editions Gallimard car la plupart d’auteurs africains de romans policiers éditent à Gallimard, à l’exception of a few. Many of these authors have now published more than one work in the genre.
But if the detective genre is constituted by male authors, crime fiction has its African "queen of crime" in the person of Aïda Mady Diallo, whose novel " Kouty, memory blood" is a wonder in the category. And his first attempt is a real coup. Aïda Mady Diallo is the first "writer" of African novels to incorporate the "Black Series". If
Saharan crime fiction made its long way to the north of Africa, things are moving with a large margin. Yasmina Khadra is the beacon that illuminates the Sahara desert with the numerous adventures of the Commissioner Llob. And in his footsteps, Driss Chraibi, whose publications ( Inspector Ali , Inspector Ali and the CIA ... ) are the delight of Editions Denoel despite the disappearance of the author. And North Africa also has its "queen of crime" in the tradition of its kind in the person of Eliette ABECASSIS since just published " Clandestine " Editions Albin Michel publishes authors such as legendary Mary Higgins Clark and others. Africa, mainland countries, is further behind still with thousands of trivia to the delight of local and foreign press!
